Toys for the youngest players have the highest stakes: they must survive chewing, throwing and endless repetition while actually helping little brains and hands develop. This category ranks rattles, stackers, activity centres, walkers and first toys by real customer ratings and review volume, which is effectively thousands of parents reporting what their babies genuinely reached for every day. Safety, washability and battery-free stamina all feature heavily in the reviews that decide these rankings. Check live prices on Amazon below.

Frequently asked questions
What should I look for in a toy for under-ones?
Simple, sturdy and safe to mouth: high-contrast colours, varied textures and nothing that can pinch or detach. Babies at this age get more from a great stacking cup than from anything with a circuit board.
Are noisy electronic toys good or bad for toddlers?
In moderation they're fine and often beloved, but reviews are honest about volume levels and which toys lack an off switch. Many parents wish they'd checked; the phrase 'batteries removed' appears in reviews for a reason.
How many toys does a toddler actually need?
Fewer than the toy industry suggests. A handful of open-ended favourites, rotated occasionally, beats a full toy box. It's worth spending on the few that reviews say get played with for years.
