The otter's party trick is a gentle, rhythmic breathing motion meant to mimic the comfort of the womb and help calm a newborn. On top of that you get up to 30 minutes of soft music, white noise and sounds, plus dimmable lights and volume control, so you can tailor it to your baby. The plush is machine washable once the electronics come out, and it takes four AA batteries, included. A 4.7 average from over 62,000 parents is excellent. Check the latest price on Amazon.

How it compares in Gifts & Keepsakes
Across the 47 rated gifts & keepsakes products we track, the typical score is 4.7 out of 5. This one sits at 4.7, which is around the middle of the category. Ratings alone will not separate it from its rivals here, so price and the specifics below matter more than the star count. That places it third of the 47 we rank here.
It carries 63,593 ratings against a category median of 1,048. A rating from a large base is harder to distort and tends to hold up over time, so a high score here means more than the same score on a new listing.
On price it sits in the upper third of a category running from £4.90 to £32.00, where the midpoint is about £13.99. Paying above the category norm needs a reason beyond the rating, because the score alone does not justify the gap here.
